Contact Lenses Near Austin, TX

Contact lenses are a great option for patients with an active lifestyle, or who would rather not wear glasses at all. Some patients even alternate between contact lens and glasses wear depending on their preferences. Either way, finding a pair of contacts that fits comfortably on your eyes is essential to providing you with clear eyesight, and since contact lenses aren’t one-size-fits-all, special care should be taken to match you with the contacts that are best suited to give you crystal clear vision.

At Bristol Family Eyecare, we offer a variety of contact lens brands and styles, and we take pride in finding effective contact lens solutions for even the most hard-to-fit eyes.

Our Austin Contact Lens Experts

Contact lenses require a slightly different vision prescription than glasses, since contacts sit directly on the eye instead a few centimeters away. During a contact lens exam, our eye doctors will generate a precise contact lens prescription and evaluate your overall eye health.

Dr. Bristol and our experts keep up to date with the latest in contact lens technology to best serve you and provide you with as many options as possible. If you have had trouble wearing contacts in the past due to eye conditions such as dry eye or astigmatism, there are more contact lens varieties available now than ever before, and we’ll help you find one that’s perfect for your eyes.

Contact Lens Options

At Bristol Family Eyecare, our broad selection of contact lens styles gives you a full range of choices. We carry some of the top brands in the country, as well as a variety of specialty lenses to meet as many of our patients’ vision needs as possible.

Soft Contact Lenses and Daily Disposable Lenses

Soft contact lenses are by far the most popular type of contacts and come in daily, weekly, and monthly disposables. Weekly and monthly contact lenses have been popular for years. These are taken out of the eyes at night and soaked in saline solution to remove protein buildup.

Daily disposable lenses, on the other hand, are gaining popularity because they require less care and are simply taken out and disposed of before going to bed. Patients enjoy putting in a fresh pair of contacts every morning, while also facing a lower risk of dryness and irritation throughout the day.

RGP Lenses in Austin, TX

Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses

Rigid gas permeable lenses (or RGP) are made of a hard, plastic material, unlike their soft and flexible counterparts. Though they may take some time to get used to, some patients find that RGP lenses give them sharper vision, since they maintain their shape on the eye and don’t move when you blink.

As the name would suggest, RGP lenses allow oxygen to reach the eyes, allowing the eye to “breathe” better than most soft contact lenses.

Bifocal and Multifocal Contact Lenses

For patients with age-related farsightedness (presbyopia), it can be frustrating to suddenly need reading glasses if you’ve never needed glasses before. And if you’re already nearsighted and wear contact lenses for your distance vision, it might be even more frustrating to have to rely on reading glasses to see up close.

Bifocal and multifocal contact lenses take care of these problems by providing multiple, distinct lens powers so you can see clearly both near and far. Progressive contact lenses, like their eyeglass lens counterparts, provide a smooth transition between near and distance vision.

Toric Lenses for Astigmatism

Astigmatism occurs when the curvature of your eye’s cornea or lens has an irregular shape. It’s a common condition that can cause blurred or distorted vision, and since corneal shapes can differ from person to person, it can be difficult or impossible to wear standard contact lenses comfortably.

Toric lenses have proven to be a great option for patients with astigmatism. These lenses typically have different prescriptions in the horizontal and vertical axes to make up for the irregular shape of the cornea, which makes it even more important for toric lenses to be fitted by a contact lens expert.

Scleral Lenses

Scleral lenses are large-diameter contact lenses that cover a wider portion of the eye’s surface than traditional contacts do. Scleral lenses vault over the entire cornea to rest on the sclera or “whites” of the eyes. This makes them less likely to dislodge from the eye, and like RGP lenses, they are very breathable.

What makes scleral lenses unique is that they create a tear reservoir in the large space between the lenses and the cornea. This makes them a great option for patients struggling with dry eye or who have an irregularly shaped cornea from conditions like keratoconus or corneal abrasions.

Abiliti™ Overnight CRT Lenses for Myopia Control

For those with myopia (nearsightedness), we offer Abiliti™ Overnight lenses. These lenses use corneal refractive therapy (CRT) to gently reshape the surface of your eye, the cornea, while you sleep. CRT helps limit the progression of myopia over time, and using Abilti™ Overnight lenses means you won’t need glasses during the day, and your risk of developing eye diseases like glaucoma later in life is greatly reduced.

After you remove your Abiliti™ Overnight lenses in the morning, you’ll have clearer sight throughout the day. And because they eliminate the need for glasses, they’re great for those with particularly active lifestyles or hobbies like contact sports or swimming!
